HCG is a glycoprotein hormone made by the placenta. It shares an alpha subunit with LH, FSH and TSH, and its unique beta subunit lets it activate the LH receptor with a much longer half-life than LH itself. It is one of the most established tools in reproductive endocrinology research.
Used to study steroidogenesis in Leydig and theca cells and ovulation in animal models.
